Rescuers search for Rafter in OC

Rescue efforts continue today for a missing rafter who fell into the Chattooga River during a commercial white water rafting tour on Wednesday. Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King reports that search efforts will resume this morning with technical rescue teams. The man appeared to have been trapped in a rapid, as rescue guides tried unsuccessfully to save him on Wednesday. Technical rescue teams will search by raft and trail to the incident site to evaluate the needs and perform recovery actions, Chief King said. The recovery efforts will be dependent on the safe water flow of the river. Oconee County Emergency Services, Rabun County Emergency Management, S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service are working together in the recovery efforts.
