United Way hosting Pill Take Back Day

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will be participating with the United Way of Oconee County on Friday for a pill take back day.  As part of the United Way’s annual Day of Action, the Sheriff’s Office will be there providing some literature and materials on crime especially in regards to drug abuse and kids.  Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “The Day of Action is something that all United Way branches throughout the world do on June 21.  There are going to be a lot of activities going on.  Seneca Police will be there to help with traffic, the Seneca Fire Department is going to be doing some safety demonstrations and there is going to be a document shredder as well.  The United Way of Oconee County is going to have a lot other businesses and organizations involved in that too.” Deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will also be participating in a pill take back day in which individuals can bring old prescription pills and prescription liquids to be disposed of properly so they won’t be a threat to the community or end up in the landfill, explains Watt. “This will be an opportunity for residents if they have old prescription medications, whether it be pills or liquid, to bring that to our booth and we will properly dispose of those items, so they won’t end of up in landfills or perhaps in the wrong hands.” Pills can also include vitamins as well. The free event will be held in the parking lot of the United Way of Oconee County building at 409 East North 1st Street in Seneca on Friday from 9am until 2pm.
