SC has Nation’s Lowest Average Gas Prices

Travelers this 4th of July week will get some welcome news as they pull up to the pump in the Palmetto State. AAA Carolinas reports that South Carolina currently has the lowest average price in the country for a gallon of regular unleaded gas at $3.18.  The average price is $3.11 in the Upstate right now. These low prices are expected to stick around for a few weeks, until we hit the middle of the hurricane season.  So far this hurricane season, storm activity has not curtailed or halted fuel production in the refineries located near the Gulf of Mexico. South Carolina’s low gas prices have a lot to do with state taxes.  The Palmetto State charges 16.8 cents per gallon, which ranks 47th-lowest gas tax in the nation.  While drivers in North Carolina pay almost 40 cents a gallon.  Georgia has the lowest state gas tax at 7.5 cents. AAA says gas prices are down, but still higher than this time last year.
