Hotels booked in Seneca for Baseball Tournament

Seneca will welcome hundreds of visitors to the city this weekend. Many of them are players and coaches for the Dixie Boys World Series that has reserved all of the hotel rooms, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.  “This week has been real exciting because you get to hear about all these people come into town.  Seneca Events coordinator Riley Johnson told me that all the hotels are full.  He said two of the teams were not able to get rooms here in Seneca, one had to go to Clemson and one had to go to Anderson.  Its twelve teams competing in the Dixie Boys World Series with family, friends, grandparents coming to watch these amazing athletes because at this age they are very competitive and very good.” Mayor Alexander thanked the Seneca Recreation Department staff for all their hard work bringing this southeastern baseball tournament to the city.  “It is a great event for us. Seneca Recreation Director Rick Lacey and his staff do an amazing job.  It seems like they have had one piece of equipment break after another this week, so at the Council meeting we had to purchase something for them that they had to have, a dragger, they use that to drag the field after the game.  We are very excited about the World Series, the opening ceremonies are Friday night at 7pm at the Shaver Recreation Complex.  I get to throw out the first pitch.”  As the mayor said, to ensure the fields of the Shaver Recreation Complex are in good shape for the games, the council took emergency action to spend up to $9,000 for a field-dragging machine to replace a 20-year old machine.  Games for the Dixie Boys World Series start on Saturday at 10am.  The double elimination tournament concludes with the championship game Wednesday night at 5pm.
