New Tax Rate set for Oconee County

A new tax rate has been established in Oconee County for the 2013 tax year and it reflects a two-mill tax increase.   Sister station WGOG reports that a recommendation by Auditor Ken Nix to the Oconee County Council was approved at their meeting Tuesday night.  It establishes 73.9 county mills and 141.1 mills for public schools. According to Nix, the School District of Oconee County sought no increase in funds and it’s operational and debt millage totals are the same. While the county’s tax rate was set in rather routine fashion, it was accompanied by words of caution from Nix that the county, in the next few years, should expect a lower assessment upon which the tax bill is figured for Oconee County’s top taxpayer, Duke Energy.
