Deputies make Arrests along I-85

A deputy with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in the southern part of the county along I-85 during routine traffic operations. Thursday afternoon, a deputy was on patrol along I-85 when he noticed a KIA failing to yield to traffic while attempting to merge onto the interstate almost causing an accident.  After approaching the vehicle, the deputy reportedly smelled burnt marijuana and noticed the driver acting nervously.  The deputy removed the three occupants from the vehicle and began a search, whereupon the deputy located a glass pipe under the console, plus, two prescription bottles from inside the console that did not bear the name of any of the individuals in the vehicle.  The deputy also noticed numerous cell phones in the car as well as a camo bag.  Upon opening the bag, the deputy noticed multiple semi-automatic pistols inside.  Serial numbers that were run on the three guns came back stolen.  All three vehicle occupants were placed under arrest and charged with possession of stolen property.  Warrants were issued against the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Matthew James Hardy of Anderson, and the two passengers in the vehicle, 22-year-old Jerry Lee Eaton, Jr. of Marietta, South Carolina and 17-year-old Cassidy Yvett Seyda of Anderson.  All three are charged by Oconee County with receiving stolen goods.  The goods were reported stolen from Jackson County, Georgia.
