SC Unemployment Rate Unchanged

In August, South Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.1%. The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce reports that the unemployment rate has shown little movement since April, fluctuating between 8 and 8.1%. Unemployed persons statewide totaled 175,602 in August, an increase of 1,165. Oconee County’s jobless situation was also unchanged from July to August at 8.8%.  Neighboring Pickens County experienced a slight decline in unemployment from 7.5% in July to 7.4% in August.  Anderson County reports a slight rise in its jobless situation from 7.6% in July to 7.8% in August.  Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped to 7.3% from July’s estimate of 7.4%.
