Pickens Elementary cleaned after Meningitis Scare

After officials with the School District of Pickens County learned that a student at Pickens Elementary School is being tested and treated for meningitis, crews immediately wipe down all hard surfaces at the school as a precaution as they await the student’s test results.  The student has not tested positive but is being treated at the hospital for the illness.  A School District letter to parents stated that students might have been exposed between Sept. 9 and Sept. 18.  The symptoms of meningitis infection may include sudden onset of fever, headache, stiff neck, confusion, drowsiness, nausea and decreased eating and drinking.  The school recommended to parents that if anyone in their home has those symptoms in the next 10 days, they are urged to immediately seek care from a doctor.
