AAA Carolinas Forecasting Record Numbers Of North And South Carolinians Will Travel For The Christmas And New Year’s Holiday

(Seneca, SC)—AAA Carolinas is forecasting that a record number of Carolinians will be traveling for the year end Christmas and New Year’s holiday season. 

The travel organization is predicting that 3.3 million North Carolinians and 1.6 million South Carolinians will be traveling by various forms of transportation between the time period of Sunday, December 22nd thru Wednesday, January 1st, which is a 3.9% increase from last year.

AAA Carolinas reports that 1.4 million of those South Carolinians who travel will do so by motor vehicle. 94,000 are expected to travel by air and 41,000 are expected to travel by other modes of transportation. 

Those who travel by motor vehicle are looking at higher gasoline prices than they were last year, as the average price for a gallon of gas in South Carolina right now stands at $2.28 a gallon, which is 23 cents higher than this time last year and 31 cents more than last Christmas.
