ACSO Deputy In Accident En Route to Investigation of Armed Suspect

UPDATE FROM PICKENS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

Late Monday night the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of an accident involving an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle on Midway Road in Williamston.

Pickens County Investigators said that an Anderson County Deputy was responding to a call for service with his emergency equipment activated. As the Deputy attempted to pass another vehicle and move back into his lane of travel, he lost control, which caused a collision with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the other vehicle was treated and released from the hospital. The Deputy was not injured in the crash.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage. The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and said that the Deputy was found to have contributed to the accident.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was responding to the report of a person armed with a knife Monday evening when they were involved in an accident on Midway Road near Beaverdam Road.

Another motorist who was involved had to be taken to an area hospital for evaluation, according to the Sheriff’s Office, who added that the investigation into the accident is being handled by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy was not taken to the hospital, officials said.
