Adult Education waving Fees for GED Classes

Adult Education will be accepting students into their GED program free of charge through December 2013.  The GED is a test that measures proficiency in science, mathematics, social studies, reading and writing.  Passing the GED test gives those who did not complete high school the opportunity to earn their high school equivalency credential, explains Oconee County Schools Assistant Superintendent Earnestine Williams.  “Due to the fact that the fees are being waived this time, they have seen a big increase in enrollment, so they are very excited about that, so that they can get all those folks who may have struggled just to get the fees to pay could now come in and actually be a part of the program, so that they can get an education and hopefully provide for themselves and their families.” In light of the new GED 2014 on the horizon, Adult Education would like to give everyone an opportunity to acquire their GED before the Computer Base Test “only” goes into effect January 2014.  After January, no more paper test will be administered.  For more information, call 864-886-4429.  Oconee County’s Adult Education Program is located within the Code Learning Center at 315 A Holland Avenue in Seneca.
