“AG”venture: Eco-Day!

“AG”venture: Eco-Day is being held at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 30. The one day mini-camp is designed for ages 6 through 12, costs $5 per child, and runs from 10am until 1pm. The theme for this “AG”venture is ecology and the environment. Participants will focus on defining an ecosystem and what factors, whether man-made or natural, will change them. Other activities will highlight how much soil and water is really available for humans to use. Through art and song, the importance of the water cycle will be studied, and everyone will enjoy learning about the food web and what animals eat by dissecting owl pellets. Every ecosystem consists of plants and animals and the day will end by participants learning how to use a microscope and learning the difference between plant and animal cells. Registration is required for this activity day, so interested parents should contact Ellen Harrison at 864-207-0705 or email [email protected]. The physical address of the museum is 120 History Lane, Pendleton. The museum is located between Pendleton and Clemson, off Highway 76, directly across from Tri-County Technical College. Regular open hours are Thursday and Friday, noon until 5pm, and Saturdays, 10am until 3pm. For hours between Dec. 21 and Dec. 30, visitors should call 864-646-7271 or visit www.bgamsc.org to check on the special holiday hours. Museum staff will also be offering a special 2:30pm tour of Woodburn Historical House during the holiday season. Admission to the Agricultural Museum is free, though donations are appreciated. Admission for the Woodburn tour is $6 for ages 13 and up and $2 for ages 5-12. Groups and schools interested in private tours should contact [email protected].
