Algae Again of Concern to PRWD

Blue-green algae has again made it’s way into the Pioneer Rural Water District, and the board of directors addressed a customer’s complaint about the quality.

In order to avert further intrusion, Pioneer has began to repurchase water from Seneca and is blending that water with it’s own treated water before it’s distributed to customers in Oconee and Anderson County.

Pioneer has grappled with algae intrusion into the water treated at Pioneer’s second-year plant on Highway 59.

Pioneer’s manager , Terry Pruitt, has vowed to fix the problem, while at least one board member is wondering whether or not Pioneer should relocate it’s intake at Lake Hartwell.
