Anderson University closing due to Hurricane Florence

Because of Hurricane Florence and its potential for bringing inclement weather to the area, Anderson University is canceling classes on Friday, Sept. 14, through Monday, Sept. 17. This decision was made to ensure that members of the campus community and their families can make timely decisions regarding their personal preparations, including travel, ahead of the hurricane’s arrival. As always, students and their families should place priority on their health and safety. Travel plans should be carefully evaluated in light of rapidly developing weather conditions. With that understanding, those with the means to leave campus and arrive to your destination safely and outside of the path of the storm may wish to do so. For those who choose to remain, or are unable to leave or arrive at your destination safely, essential services will be available to keep students safe and secure. The most current forecast for the area indicates Hurricane Florence will impact the region surrounding Anderson University on Sunday, Sept. 16. To that end, preparations are being made to ensure campus facilities are prepared to safely accommodate our students. Specifically, Anderson University is securing additional resources including, but not limited to, extra food and water for the 26,000-square foot G. Ross Anderson Jr. Student Center, which is equipped with generators to maintain electricity in the event of a power outage. Should the Student Center be needed on Monday to provide shelter for students, in addition to ample supplies of food and water, the facility will be open and fully staffed throughout the duration of any emergency. Ample additional activities will be provided. While classes are canceled on Friday and Monday, all Anderson University offices will remain open. More information will be released as it becomes available at www.andersonuniversity.edu/news/hurricane-florence.
