Another Class Moved to Distance Learning As Oconee COVID-19 Numbers Increase – Theory As To Why

As a preventative measure to limit the spread of COVID-19, the School District of Oconee County has chosen to transition a Westminster Elementary kindergarten class to distance learning for a period of time. Students may return to school on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 unless under quarantine for another reason.

School District of Oconee County Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland said that he and he district’s DHEC contact believe local COVID-19 case numbers have jumped because of the arrival of Clemson University students, but in the interest in transparency, he said, there have been increases in the public schools over the last “three or four days”…

School Officials strongly encourage families to practice the following guidelines:

  • Students should STAY HOME and NOT CONGREGATE IN GROUPS for any reason.
  • Students will not be allowed to attend any school-sponsored events, including sports.
  • Students should be closely monitored for symptoms for COVID-19.  Please contact the school nurse with any new signs or symptoms or positive test result for COVID-19.
