Another Election scheduled for OC

This is turning into the year of elections in Oconee County. First the City of Seneca and Town of West Union Municipal Elections, then the Democratic and Republican Primaries, the Republican Primary Runoff and in November, the General Election, but now another election has been added, explains Oconee County Voter Registration and Elections Director Joy Scharich. “David Scealf in the Town of West Union was just re-elected not too far back in April and he has resigned. That special election will be Tuesday, Sept. 18, and filing for that will open on July 20.” Scealf had to resign from the West Union Town Council after taking a job with the Oconee County Sheriff’ Office. State law prohibits dual office holding and deputy sheriffs are considered extensions of an elected sheriff.
