Asparagus may prevent Hangovers

Researchers at the Institute of Medical Science say they have found some components in asparagus that may help alcohol drinkers mitigate the sometimes painful effects of `too much.’ Whether it is the morning after hangover or repairing the liver, according to the study, asparagus can be of great benefit. Kantha Shelke is a food scientist and gives more insight on the study. “Asparagus contains aspartic acid, asparagines, and glutamine and these stimulate the enzymes that are responsible for breaking down alcohol.” She adds that asparagus helps to break down toxins. “Altahides are like toxins and if you can break that down very quickly then chances are you are not going to feel hung over.” The practice of using asparagus to treat too much alcohol consumption has been around for centuries, concludes Shelke. “While you may not see products out in the market place the practice of consuming products like asparagus is an age old one, people have been using that for centuries.” Please drink responsibly and always designate a driver if you plan to drive after consuming alcohol.
