Balance of Power could be shifting on OC Council

With John Elliott’s defeated of council chair Edda Cammick in the Republican Primary for District 1 on the Oconee County Council Tuesday night, the balance of power could be shifting in the county. Oconee County Councilman Julian Davis said he is looking forward to the future. “I’m excited for Mr. Elliott and a big congratulations to him; hard work truly pays off. I think the citizens saw the need for a change and that is one of the things that I think Mr. Elliott does bring to the table. It is not to forget the things that Mrs. Cammick has done for this county and it is tough being an elected official. It is really tough to sit up here on county council and listen to people constantly badger you each night, but you also have to remember about the great things that you do. I always call it the silent majority that speak up and tell you about the good things that you are doing and push forward. I think the citizens have spoken that it is time for a change and they are ready to wake up this county and move it in the direction forward that Mr. Elliott, Mr. Cain and myself do want it to move toward.” Davis and Councilman Paul Cain have recently been the minority opinion on the Oconee County Council with Cammick and Councilmen Wayne McCall and James Glenn Hart as the majority. Elliott received 2,626 votes to Cammick’s 754 or 78%. He must still win the General Election on Nov. 6, where he faces Democrat Bill Bruehl for the four-year term representing District 1 on the Oconee County Council that begins Jan. 1, 2019.
