Band Students recovering after School Bus Accident

Members of the Walhalla High School Marching Band are recovering from a Saturday afternoon accident involving a car and two school buses, explains Oconee County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations Steve Hanvey. “We did have two of our band buses, they were carrying about 55 students up to the Upper State Band Competition at Gaffney near the Table Rock entrance. The lead bus, the one in front, hit a car that was making a left turn into Table Rock and then a domino effect started and the second bus hit the first bus and that knocked it even more into the car in front of it. We had eight students who needed to get just checked out and they took them to three different emergency rooms over in Pickens County and one in Greenville. Everybody checked out good and everybody was released by Saturday afternoon and back home and doing well.” Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the accident, which occurred around 12:30pm on Highway 11 in Pickens County. The two people in the car were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
