Bartee Trial nearing end

The trial of James Bartee, a former candidate for Oconee County Sheriff charged with plotting to kidnap a judge, resumes today.  Bartee testified Friday denying that he plotted to kidnap former Judge James Williams. In May 2012, Williams filed a motion against Bartee calling into question his qualifications for office. The prosecution alleges Bartee plotted to have Williams kidnapped so he would miss the next hearing on that motion. The defense rested their case Friday. Closing arguments are scheduled for today at the Oconee County Courthouse in Walhalla.
