Battle of the Bulge Anniversary

“The month of January 2013 marks the 68th anniversary of the bloodiest and most costly military campaign ever fought by American forces”, according to Jerry Dyar, Oconee County Veterans Affairs Director.  “From the frozen Ardennes Forests to St. Vith, to Bastogne, our men faced some of the most unimaginable conditions ever endured”, said Dyar.  The Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office is assisting the Oconee County Library system in attempting to locate as many World War II veterans from this area who may have participated in the Battle of the Bulge as possible.  At 2:30pm on January 27, the Walhalla Library invites everyone 12 years of age and up to explore and relive the battlefields of World War II, with particular emphasis at this time on the Battle of the Bulge.  Dyar says, “Any WWII veterans throughout the county who had anything to do with the Battle of the Bulge are asked to contact the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office as soon as possible.  We want to get as many of these special veterans to the library here in Walhalla as possible on January 27  Philip Cheney, Director of the Oconee County Library system says, “This is an especially important series of presentations at a time when our World War II “heroes” are passing at an alarming rate.  This series constitutes an important record of wartime memories.  So if anyone knows of living Battle of the Bulge veterans here in Oconee County please have them or a family member contacts the Oconee County Library in Walhalla or the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office about this special program on January 27th at 2:30pm”.
