Bear Population rising in SC

South Carolina is experiencing a rising bear population and increasing habitat encroachment, causing more frequent encounters with bears along the state’s roadways. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) reports that 20 bears were killed along Upstate roadways in 2016, and there have been more than 30 so far this year. Motorists are urged to use caution, especially around dawn and dusk when bears tend to travel. The bear population in South Carolina has been increasing over the last 20 years and is expected to continue to do so.
