Birthday Cake Float in Seneca Christmas Parade

If you attended Monday night’s Seneca Christmas Parade, you may have seen an Oconee County vehicle pulling a birthday cake. The float is meant to remind the community that the county celebrates a milestone birthday in 2018, explains Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley. “The sesquicentennial, we started last night, we’ve got a float that we are putting in all the parades, its got a birthday cake on it. Leslie White and Jennifer Moss from the Oconee Heritage Center did a great job building that. It will go through as kind of an advertisement that next year’s sesquicentennial is happening.” Shirley tells more about the big birthday. “January of 1868, Oconee County was separated from the Pickens District and became Oconee County, so 2018 will be our 150th birthday.” Oconee County will be releasing more details about its year long 150th birthday celebration in 2018 soon.
