Blue Ridge Community Center Gets Basketball Court

The Blue Ridge Community Center is nearing the completion of a new basketball court at the former Blue Ridge High School in Seneca, a school that served black students before integration. Anna Webb, a graduate of Blue Ridge High and a member of the undefeated 1962 women’s basketball state championship team, spearheaded the project. She raised over $4,000 in donations for the court and designed a six-goal layout. The project, which began construction on May 28 and had concrete poured on May 31, also involved Antonio Alexander, Rod Brown, Andrea Harbin, Tico Manley, and Delanio Taylor. While there’s no set completion date, the installation of the goals is imminent. The court will provide a local outdoor play area, eliminating the need for residents to travel to the Shaver Recreation Complex. Webb expressed her joy and pride in giving back to her community and her high school.
