Bobcats win Game 1 of Best of 3 State Championship Series

The Seneca Bobcats are one game away from the State Baseball Championship. On Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats defeated the Bishop England Battling Bishops, 2-0, in game one of the best of three series. Seneca High School was lead by starting pitcher Tristen Hudson, who went 6 and 2/3 innings for the win. Hudson struck out eight batters and gave up just two hits. Coleman Smith closed the game, getting the final out on a grounder up the middle to Hudson, who replaced Smith at shortstop. The Bobcats scored the winning run in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Petey Ridley, who drove in Walker Lathrop after he singled to lead off the inning. An insurance run was added in the sixth inning when Furman Wilson lead off with a single, then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Matthew Burgess, and some heads up base running, realizing no one was covering third base after the third baseman fielded the bunt. Jack Fassino drove Wilson in on a sacrifice fly to the outfield. The Bobcats travel to Charleston Tuesday to play Bishop England at 5pm in game two.
