Body discovered in Woods near Seneca identified

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis has identified the body discovered in a wooded area in the Friendship Community. At 7am Thursday morning, the Oconee County 911 system received a call reporting the discovery of a body off Greenbriar Drive near Seneca. A Central man scouting the woods for the upcoming turkey-hunting season discovered the body. Coroner Addis identified 40-year-old Douglas Odell Chapman, Jr. of Seneca.  He has been recently staying at his mother’s home located on April Drive, which is in proximity to the wooded area where his body was located. He was last seen alive Sunday morning between 12 and 1 am running into the woods at the scene of a reported motorcycle collision on Friendship Road. The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated that incident.  His brother reported that Chapman was not involved in the motorcycle collision but went to the scene to be of assistance.  He fled into the woods reportedly when “he saw the blue lights of law enforcement vehicles”.  An autopsy will be performed today to assist in the death investigation.  The preliminary investigation found no obvious fatal injuries.
