Boston Red Sox Sign Michael Gettys

The Boston Red Sox signed a free agent outfielder with local ties last week.

Michael Gettys is the grandson of Wayne and Donna Morton of Seneca.
Gettys has spent the last six years with the San Diego Padres after being drafted in the second-round from Gainesville, GA high school. He has hit 84 minor league career home runs and hit 31 in 2018 with Triple-A El Paso. The pandemic caused cancellation of last year’s minor league season.
Gettys will report to the Red Sox spring training camp in Ft.Myers, FL in February, and, based on performance, will be called up to Boston or assigned to the Triple-A Pawsox in Pawtucket, RI.
His grandparents said they are thrilled to have him back east so they can see him play without travelling across the country.
Special submission from Wayne Morton
