Bridge Replacement Study Application Jointly Submitted by SC & GA
South Carolina and Georgia have jointly applied for a federal planning grant to replace or rehabilitate up to six bridges over Lake Hartwell. The application requests $1.68 million from the Bridge Investment Program for a Planning and Environmental Linkages Study covering 2.5 miles on I-85. According to Kelly Moore, SCDOT spokeswoman, if awarded, the funds will be used to assess current conditions and recommend appropriate actions for the bridges. Additionally, there is local discussion in Fair Play about potentially rerouting I-85 traffic to create a new interstate crossing between the two states.
