Busy Weekend for OC EMS

This past weekend was an exciting time for the agencies of Oconee County Emergency Services. In addition to the Walhalla Presbyterian Church fire, there were missing persons search missions as well as a vehicle and freight train accident.  Friday night at 8:52pm, units were dispatched to an elderly male that went missing from his home on Peach Tree Drive in Westminster. The family stated the man had Alzheimer’s and was last seen earlier in the day around the home. Search crews worked for over two hours to locate the man in a wooded area near Rich Mountain. He was returned home safely. On Saturday at 3:45am, the Cornith-Shiloh Fire Station was alerted to a vehicle accident involving a train on Jacobs Drive, just outside of Clemson. Crew members of a southbound Norfolk Southern train reported hitting a pick-up truck that was on the track at the entrance to Harts Cove Apartments. Firefighters arrived to find the pick-up truck was not occupied at the time of the accident and there were no injuries or derailment. On Sunday at 9:22am, rescuers were requested to assist the Sheriffs Office in locating a missing male on South Retreat Road in Westminster. The male was last seen by family on Thursday and reported missing on Saturday. The man was located after about two hours. He had gone into the woods and suffered a medical illness. He was transported to Oconee Medical Center for treatment.
