Cain excited about change to OC Council

By a margin of 1,872 votes, John Elliott defeated incumbent Edda Cammick Tuesday in the Republican Primary for District 1 on the Oconee County Council. Oconee County Councilman Paul Cain said he was surprised by the margin of victory for the challenger against the chair of the county council. “I was very glad to see how it turned out and it was a much wider margin of victory for Mr. Elliott than I expected. I think that goes to show that people are tired of the negativity. They are tired of the backbiting and backstabbing and they want a council that is looking out for the future. A council that plans, a council that prepares and a council that respects this office as ought to be respected and doesn’t treat it as a way to exact revenge or anything else. It is about planning for the future and making sure that this place is better off when we leave than when we found it. So, I trust Mr. Elliott will do what he said he will do and we’ll pick up the baton and carry it forward for the future. I’m really excited to start working with him come January.” In the Nov. 6, General Election, Elliott will square off with Democrat Bill Bruehl for a four-year term on the Oconee County Council that begins Jan. 1, 2019. These results are still unofficial and must be certified by the Oconee County Elections Commission on Thursday.
