Cain tells Clemson not to annex Condo Development

Oconee County Councilman Paul Cain was one of five residents from the Golden Corner to speak during a City of Clemson public hearing Monday night in opposition to the proposed annexation of seven acres inside Oconee County. “One of the things that was important to stress to the Clemson City Council is that Oconee County is not in favor of annexation. We have heard from a lot of constituents and none that I have spoken to have been in favor of this annexation, so I think it was important for Clemson to hear that and go on the record that we are opposed to it. So, I asked them not to vote in favor of annexation. I also stressed some of the problems that we saw with it; the lack of communication between Clemson and Oconee County, they’re failure to let us know that they were planning on doing this apparently for the past four years. We’re very excited about the project and we hate that this has kind of put the project in an awkward situation but at the same time they are the ones that asked to annexed into the City of Clemson. So, it is a difficult position for us all to be in with this annexation request.” The Clemson City Council will hold another reading of the annexation request at their next meeting before voting on the measure.
