Check Smoke Alarms this Weekend

The Oconee County Fire Department encourages testing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, Nov. 5, tells Oconee County Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshall Shane Gibbs. “It’s time to fall back one hour as daylight savings time ends this weekend. As we set our clocks back, we recommend testing your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Roughly two-thirds of home fire deaths in the United States occur in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. When smoke alarms should have worked but failed to operate, it is usually because batteries were missing, disconnected, or dead.” In addition, make sure everyone in the home understands the sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond.
