Citizens Reveal Concerns And Ideas For The Highway 123 Corridor Project To Alta Planning And Design

(Seneca, SC)—————————The Oconee County Planning Department along with Alta Planning and Design wrapped up three days of workshops and meetings Wednesday gaining public input as the group prepares a draft document for the Planning Commission concerning the Highway 123 Corridor Project.

Kat Maines, who is the Senior Planner for Alta Planning and Design, told us what the public has mentioned were their biggest concerns and what they would like to see as it pertains to Highway 123 between Seneca and Clemson.

Maines said that safety appeared to be the number one concern for citizens. Maines said Highway 123 was designed a thru corridor and the shortest point from Clemson to Seneca but that has changed due to development. Citizens also shared ideas about dedicated spaces to walk and bike that could be on the corridor itself or off the corridor close by. Citizens also talked about the development aspect in regards to this development matching the character that the citizens see for the county since Highway 123 is a main point of travel for folks coming into and out of the Oconee County.

The draft should be delivered to the Planning Commission next month. The Planning Commission will review the document and then make a decision on whether to send the document along to Oconee County Council for further discussion.
