CITY OFFERS GRASS ROOTS PLAN TO MATCH NEED FOR FOOD AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS’ DESIRE TO HELP TORNADO VICTIMS

In order to get food to those who need it most, and at the same time reduce the sheer volume of traffic pouring in those areas hardest hit by the weekend tornado, the City of Seneca has offered a grassroots plan to local organizations who want to provide prepared food to residents desperately in need of a good meal.

Many calls from concerned groups have poured into City Hall asking how they can provide food to the people in the affected area. This plan provides an alternate location for THOSE RESIDENTS WHO NEED FOOD AND FOR THOSE ORGANIZATIONS WHO WISH TO PROVIDE FOOD.

Instead of delivering food inside the blocked areas, local churches and organizations are asked to take prepared food to these two locations between the hours of 10 am to 2 pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday:

UPSTATE MEDICAL ASSOCIATES – 15575 Wells Highway, Seneca
OCONEE COMMUNITY THEATRE – 8001 Utica Street, Seneca

LOCAL RESIDENTS WHO WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE MEALS SHOULD also come to these same locations between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm to receive food.

Residents may also pick up non-perishable items and water at the Golden Corner Food Pantry, 635 Business Park Drive, Seneca.

City officials advise organizations will be turned away at entry points going into the blocked areas and will be redirected to the locations shown above. Organizations who wish to participate must take their own supplies, such as tables, ice, paper ware, etc., as none will be provided at the sites. No electrical hook ups will be available.
The City also has noted that the effectiveness of program will be evaluated in 48 hours to determine if the plan adequately meets residents’ needs.
