Clemson City Council To Hold Budget Work Session Tonight; Mayor Cook Comments On Budget During Coffee Time Program

(Seneca, SC)—————-Clemson City Council will hold a budget work session tonight at 5:30pm in the Conference Room at Clemson City Hall.

City Council held a budget work session last night after their regular City Council meeting. Yesterday, Clemson Mayor J.C. Cook was a guest on the Coffee Time program and according to the Mayor, the general budget for the city of Clemson is in really good shape right now with the new fiscal year set to begin on July 1st. The Mayor said that the city has been very fortunate that the finances for the city have been good and that the City Council in the past has made good decisions so that the reserve fund is where it needs to be.

Mayor Cook says the anticipation is that the budget will be pretty close to being balanced and it looks like that there will not be any tax increases this year. However, the Mayor does say that things could change as they work through the work sessions if there are special considerations.

The Mayor said you can never anticipate certain things that may come up and that is why the reserve fund is important and making sure it is in good shape is important in this business.

Even though no tax increase is anticipated in the budget for the city of Clemson in the next fiscal year, Mayor Cook says that there was a 1-mill tax increase last year for the building of a new Arts Center and the remodeling of the Clemson area African-American Museum.
