Clemson Presidential Search Renewed After Guskiewicz Reverses Decision
Clemson University’s presidential search is back underway after president-elect Kevin Guskiewicz withdrew from the role to remain at Michigan State University, citing deep personal reflection and a renewed commitment to his current institution. Despite being unanimously selected by Clemson trustees in May with a $1.21 million base salary, Guskiewicz—who has led MSU since 2023 and previously served at UNC-Chapel Hill—informed the board of his decision on Monday in a letter also shared with his current campus community. Clemson officials stated that the board will meet in the near future to determine the next steps in restarting their search from a previously deep pool of candidates.
