Clemson Student arrested on Firearms Charge

Clemson University police arrested a student Monday on a charge of carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas.  Police arrested 18-year-old Brandon Lee Bechtler of Edgemoor just before midnight on the felony charge because of a handgun that was in the glove compartment of his truck on campus.  According to the warrant, he told the officer about the weapon during a search of the vehicle. Bechtler, a freshman engineering major, also was charged with simple possession of marijuana, which is a misdemeanor. He was released on a $5,260 personal recognizance bond.
