Clemson University Announces Reopening Of Brooks Center For The Performing Arts Next Monday

(Seneca, SC)—————–Clemson University has announced that the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts will be reopening its doors next Monday, March 25th after being closed for the past few weeks for some spring cleaning and also for the removal of bats.

Several bats were discovered in the building about three weeks ago on February 27th and the closing of the theater was a cautionary closing. The last three bats were removed from the building March 13th.

During the closure, one performance were cancelled and several others were moved to Daniel High School and several churches.

The Clemson Facilities staff and outside contractors, private pest-control experts and wildlife experts, were brought in to safely and humanely remove the bats. This was not the first time that bats had to be removed from the facility. In 2018, the Brooks Center was closed from March 30th to April 27th after a colony of free-tailed bats was discovered roosting inside a wall and others were found near the stage. The numbers discovered a few weeks ago was a smaller number than last year in the 87,000 square foot building.

The public is reminded in a press release from Clemson University not to have any contacts with bats they might observe, regardless of where it is. Any direct contact with a bat is grounds for medical attention to rule out the remote risk of contact with rabies. Bats are protected by federal law as well.

The first performance since the closure is once again next Monday with a production of “Bollywood Boulevard” at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the Brooks Center website or its box office. The cost is $30 for the general public and $10 for students.
