Clemson’s Wright Bryan First Reporter on D-Day

Today, June 6, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, where Wright Bryan, a 1926 Clemson graduate and distinguished journalist, made history with the first broadcast from the frontlines.

On that day in 1944, Bryan flew over Normandy with the 101st Airborne Division, providing an eyewitness account that scooped over 600 other reporters…

His report captivated America, earning praise from President Roosevelt and other dignitaries. Bryan, who later became an editor and university administrator, was awarded the Medal of Freedom by Eisenhower and remained dedicated to Clemson until his death in 1991.
