Contract Construction announces September Student of the Month

A senior at Walhalla High School has been honored as the first Contract Construction Student of the Month, tells Dr. Meghan Ketterman, Director of Business Development at Contract Construction. “The September 2018 Student of the Month for Contract Construction is Mr. Dennis Compton.” This is a new program in the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) aimed at recognizing students interested in building the construction workforce in the county. Dr. Ketterman congratulates all the nominees for September. “I also want to congratulate all the students that were nominated. We had nominations from each of the high schools; Seneca, Walhalla and West-Oak as well as the Hamilton Career Center. So, I want to congratulate them and thank all the teachers that submitted nominations. It was a healthy pool of applicants and the judges came back to me and said this is going to be a phenomenal program because of the talent that is involved in these programs.” Dr. Ketterman tells more about the students that are eligible to be the Contract Construction Student of the Month in the SDOC. “We came together with Chad Lusk, the Director of Career and Technical Education in the SDOC and Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland and brought the idea that we wanted to highlight a student from the district from each of the three high schools and the Hamilton Career Center to highlight and recognize those students that are a part of the building construction industries in their schools. We just wanted to recognize those students that are going above and beyond academically and leadership wise throughout their high school programs.” Each month during the school year, teachers will submit applications to a review panel and then one student in the district will be recognized as the Contract Construction Student of the Month.
