Coroner Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash Involving Sheriff’s Detective

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore is investigating the death of Detective Mark C. Garrett, a 56-year-old Williamston resident and Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, killed in a motorcycle crash. The incident occurred Wednesday after 1:00 p.m. at Anderson Drive and Beaverdam Road in Williamston, where Garrett’s motorcycle collided with a car that turned in front of him. He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries, ruled accidental. Douglas H. Lueck was charged with felony DUI resulting in death and booked into the Anderson County Detention Center. Garrett’s son also serves as an ACSO deputy. The investigation continues by the Anderson County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
