County’s Advertising Expenses On Next Meeting’s Agenda

Oconee County Council Chairman Julian Davis has vowed to have an open discussion regarding advertising expenses at the County’s next meeting on Tuesday, September 15th. During a special called meeting this week, the chairman requested his colleagues to give thought and have discussions about how the county should structure it’s advertising contracts.

The advertising arrangements, specifically with local newspaper The Journal, are in focus as the result of several members of the public who’ve asked the council to stop its advertising with the newspaper because of a political cartoon published in June on the paper’s Opinion page that was deemed offensive by some members of the community.

The newspaper promptly apologized and promised steps toward better public relations. Advertising decisions with The Journal will be presented to the council for approval at the next meeting.
