CU Student Concept Car on display at Trade Event

A six-seat Deep Orange 3 sports car, engineered by Clemson University students, is on display at the nation’s premier automotive trade show.  The next-generation concept vehicle called Deep Orange 3 was sponsored by Mazda and engineered by automotive engineering students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research.  This innovative car is being shown this week during the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show. The Deep Orange program showcases advanced vehicle technologies and provides students an opportunity to work directly with automotive industry partners.  Deep Orange 3 features a unique hybrid powertrain that automatically chooses front-, rear- or all-wheel-drive; a load-bearing structure based on innovative sheet-folding technology patented by Industrial Origami; and groundbreaking 3+3 seating configuration in sports car architecture.
