CU’s WISE honored for Girls’ Engineering Program

Clemson University’s Women in Science and Engineering Program, as known as WISE, has received the 2013 National Engineers Week Foundation and Women in Engineering Programs and Advocate Networks’ Introduce a Girl to Engineering Award. The award honors organizations for outstanding outreach efforts as a part of National Engineers Week and Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day in February. WISE encourages females in engineering and science majors to prepare for, obtain and succeed in their careers by offering mentoring, advising and networking opportunities. Serita Acker directs the WISE program at Clemson University. WISE collaborated with Lockheed Martin, a global security and aerospace company, and Girl Scouts from Mountains to Midlands to present its 13th annual “Introduce a Girl to Engineering and Science Day.” Girl Scouts from around the state were invited to Clemson University to learn about careers in science and engineering through interactive activities with industry professionals and Clemson faculty and students. WISE will accept the award at the 2013 Women in Engineering Programs and Advocate Networks conference in Atlanta on June 21.
