DAVIS AGAIN TO CHAIR THE COUNTY COUNCIL

Julian Davis will be chairman of the Oconee County Council for the second year in a row, but his tenure wasn’t uncontested. In the reorganization traditional to the first council meeting of a new year, District 5 Councilmember Glenn Hart nominated District 1 Councilmember John Elliot to the post ahead of a nomination of Davis by District 3 Councilmember Paul Cain. The election was decided by written ballots, with Davis emerging the winner by a 3-2 vote. When the votes were revealed, the deciding vote for Davis was cast by Elliot, joining those of Cain and Davis himself. Cain was selected as vice-chairman and Elliot was chosen as chairman pro tem. Elliot will also chair the Council finance committee, which includes all Council members. All other committee chairmanships and memberships will continue as in the last year.
