Davis to speak at Clemson Public Hearing

A public hearing tonight in the City of Clemson will be attended by at least one Oconee County Councilman who plans to speak against the annexation of seven acres. Councilman Julian Davis says he wants the Clemson City Council to know that he opposes annexing the Lakeside Lodge development on Lot 8 of the Hartwell Village project. “Tonight is their public hearing during their standard council meeting. They will have a first reading after this about the annexation of Lot 8, which is Lakeside Lodge. The biggest reason to speak tonight is to talk to Clemson mainly about the way that this whole thing went about, which is very upsetting from a standpoint of if you had a plan in 2014 to annex land in Oconee County. There were no talks about is there an ability to partnership or this is our plan, that is one thing we will talk about tonight. The second thing is a lot of us feel like we are being used against each other for the benefit of the developer. Lakeside Lodge is very important to Oconee County and I want people to understand that. This development is a great development and a great tax basis for Oconee County and so we are excited about the development. It has nothing to do with the development or anything involved in it because we appreciate them choosing Oconee County to do this. The reason why Lakeside Lodge is even interested in this area is because of the work that Oconee County and the City of Seneca has actually done to provide the infrastructure to that area. That which the City of Clemson did not help with or did not offer to, they waited for it to get done and now they’re interested in getting a little piece of the pie.” The Oconee County Council has called a Special Meeting for tonight, Feb. 19, in order to attend and participate in the public hearing of the Clemson City Council at 6pm in Clemson City Hall, which is located at 1250 Tiger Boulevard.
