Deadline for Free Credit Monitoring expires Sunday

South Carolina residents have until Sunday to sign up for a free year of credit monitoring and identity-theft protection. That service, Protect My ID from Experian, is in response to a massive data hack at the state Department of Revenue last year. It is available to any resident who has filed a South Carolina tax return since 1998, even if your information was not believed to be compromised. While over 3.8 million individual tax filers were affected, only 1.3 million people have signed up.  To sign up, individuals should visit www.protectmyid.com/scdor and use the activation code SCDOR123 or call customer service at 1-866-578-5422.
