Statement from the family of Timothy Lee Evett:
The family of Timothy Lee Evett would like to address the recent release of information regarding his passing. For the past several days, we have worked closely with the Pickens County Coroner’s Office and Pickens City Law Enforcement. Our family’s explicit request was for these agencies to withhold Timothy’s identity from the public. This was a deliberate choice made to give us the necessary time to process our loss, protect our peace, and handle our grief in private before the world was made aware.
However, we have been deeply saddened by the actions of some members of the community during this time. The choice by many to treat Timothy’s death as a source of entertainment and the level of entitlement directed toward public service officials has been overwhelming. Because of this environment, we have had to make the difficult decision to put our personal loss and family grief into the public eye sooner than we were ready, simply to appease public curiosity. Timothy was a person, a loved one, not a headline or a topic for speculation.
We ask that you now honor Timothy’s memory by showing the respect and compassion that our family deserves. We will be making no further comments as we focus on honoring his life.
Sincerely,
The Family of Timothy Lee Evett
