Deep Water Diver requires help on Lake Jocassee

A man required medical treatment Saturday when he felt ill during a deep-water dive in Lake Jocassee.  Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King reports that the man was part of an outing led by commercial divers. The man became ill while diving to a depth of over 300 feet.  Responders and paramedics treated the man on scene until he could be transferred to the Med Trans helicopter for transport. Chief King says that he will undergo treatment in a hyperbaric chamber to reduce the potential effects from the pressure changes on the body from diving at deep depths. Units operating on the incident included the Salem Fire and Rescue Squad, Oconee Medical Center EMS, Med Trans Medical Helicopter and Oconee County Emergency Services.
