Department Heads present needs to Seneca Council

A special meeting to discuss the individual department needs of the City of Seneca took place Tuesday evening.  The Mayor and City Council heard from each city department head about their greatest needs to ensure top quality service for the next 25 years, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.  “Each department head got up and talked about individual needs that they have.  That is really what we want to do is make sure that we are able to do everything we can to provide for the future of this community.”  The most common demand was for more space, adds Mayor Alexander.  “In the future as Seneca continues to grow one of the biggest things that we are faced with is we are cramped for space and we need more office space.  Utilities Director Bob Faires has a plan to take the old school building and turn that into sort of a multi-campus Light and Water complex.” Faires presented the Council with drawings of how he would renovate the old school building and install office space for the Light and Water Department. The Council saw first hand how the building could be used as the meeting was held at the former J.N. Kellett School, which the city owns.  Mayor Alexander tells more about city plans to find more office space.  “We went through all this and when Bob Faires made his presentation, remarkably when we free up space there it actually helps another department.  The Streets Department was there and talked about moving from one facility to another.  So as Bob renovates the Kellett facility, the Lowry Building would come open and the Sanitation department could move there and it gives them a lot more space.” The former Kellett School building is currently being used by the Seneca Fire Department for training.
